Webcam directories are essentially nothing more than directories of live webcams from around the globe.
Visitors can simply type in a location (e.g. “Golden Gate Bridge”) and view live streams from (or at least close to) that location:
Here are a few examples of live webcam feeds:
- Statue of Liberty – New York (view)
- Times Square – New York (view)
- Eiffel Tower – Paris, France (view)
Note: Although the examples above may be located in particularly popular locations (or of world famous landmarks), it’s important to note that your website doesn’t have to be located in a particular interesting/exotic location to submit your feed.
There are plenty of live streams of car parks (view), motorways (view), and other relatively boring locations.
By setting up a live stream and adding it to webcam directories, you can build a few extra (and easy) links to your site.
Here’s how to do it:
- Set-up a webcam
- Create a webcam page on your website
- Add the link to webcam directories
First, you’re going to need to purchase a webcam.
Amazon is the best place to search for one of these:
Note: You also need someone technical to set the webcam up as a 24/7 live stream, which can be costly.
Next, add a page to your website that will display the live stream.
Here’s an example of what it might look like:
Finally, you need to add your page to your chosen webcam directory.
