Deep Broken Link Building

Joshua HardwickJoshua Hardwick

Broken link building is a good starting point.

But you can actually go much deeper.

If you’ve already used the broken link building tactic (click here if you haven’t), then you should already have a list of broken links in your niche.

Also, you should have reached out to any webmasters that were linking out to those URLs, to inform them about the issue.

However, chances are that if one website if linking out to a broken link, many others will be too.

By finding these websites and reaching out to them, you can earn a tonne more links than you would with broken link building alone.

Here’s how to do it:

To find who else is linking to your discovered broken links, dump all your broken link URLs into Ahrefs batch analysis tool:

Click “Start analysis”.

This will show you the number of URLs linking out to those broken links:

If the number is >1, export the backlinks to a .csv file.

Find the contact details for the exported sites and reach out to the webmasters with this template:

“Hey [NAME],

I’m was just reading your post about [TOPIC] and noticed one of the links wasn’t working.

Here’s a screenshot of the dead link: [INSERT SCREENSHOT]

Just thought I’d give you a heads-up.

PS. If you’re looking for a replacement for the link, this page might be good: [INSERT LINK]”

Note: You can then repeat the initial broken link building process for all of the sites you just extracted from Ahrefs and check for even more broken links. If you find any, simply rinse and repeat the process.
