Flippa Link Building

Flippa is a marketplace where webmasters (or aspiring webmasters) can go to purchase both new and already established websites:

It’s like eBay for websites…

There are thousands of websites for sale of Flippa at any one time, and many of them have been established a number of years, such as this one:

When webmasters come to sell these sites, they have to create a listing (much like you would on eBay).

This listing is often extremely extensive, and lists a tonne of details about the website, including: monthly visitors, revenue, and so forth.

And, because SEO is so important for any well-established website, owners often also list the places that they acquired backlinks in the description, like this one:

He also lists exactly how he acquired these backlinks:

…and he’s not the only Flippa seller doing this, either.

Here’show to do it:

Finding Flippa sites in your industry is as simple as going to Flippa.com and typing in a broad keyword (e.g. “tech”) into the search box:

It pays to use the advanced search, however, as most websites giving such information will be well-established.

Therefore, you should limit your search to websites with 1,000+ visitors per month:

Next, go through each result and look for backlink information in the listing(s).

Make a note of any backlink opportunities you find, and how they were obtained.

In most cases, they’ll have been built using PR techniques – this means you can quite quickly build up a list of journalists in your space who are receptive to pitches.

Here’s an outreach template you can use for any you find:

“Hey [NAME],

I’m [YOUR NAME], [POSITION] at [WEBSITE].

I’m just emailing today to see if you’d be interested in checking out [INSERT PRODUCT | COMPANY | ETC]. I noticed you covered [INSERT COMPANY] last month (here: [INSERT LINK]), so thought you might be interested.
